What others have said about Yoga with Lisa Retreats:
“Lisa‘s yoga sessions are challenging but fun. She is careful to take into account the experience and ability level of individual participants. The location in Crete is spectacular.” Ian 2023
“This was my first yoga retreat ever. I loved it so much I rebooked for 2024 before I got back from the 2023 retreat!! The yoga classes were fabulous. A combination of yoga moves, sequences, meditation and affirmations. So well thought out by the tutor. We was given a goodie bag with all we needed to meditate and journal. The venue was a priceless view across the Mediterranean. Good vegetarian food and lovely staff. I came home feeling recharged, a clear head and a positive outlook. Can’t recommend highly enough” Dawn 2023
“It was a lovely holiday, and a really good experience. It was my first yoga retreat and the way Lisa organised it was excellent, I can’t wait for the next one!” Mary 2023
Kissamos, also known as Kastelli, is a small town which mostly sells tractors to the local farming community. There is a network of cobbled streets where you can find shops and cafes, and an area overlooking the sea with traditional Cretan seafood restaurants.
Our yoga venue is on the outskirts of the town. Here the sea is clean, warm and shallow, making for easy swimming with a long quiet strand of golden sandy beach with occasional shingle. Our beach is called Mavros Molos, and the yoga space is above the beach looking out to sea.
Kastelli is a seaside resort which attracts Greek tourists. Behind this coastal plainis a mountainous backdrop of gorges and craggy peaks. This provides for many easy grade walks, the chance to see birds of prey, and wild flowers, and old rural ways like treading grapes.
Apart from sunbathing, swimming, snorkelling and yoga, you can visit ancient ruins, take a day cruise, explore the Venetian town of Chania, walk gorges, or be still and simply enjoy the ocean.
Our hosts Mike and Maria own the beachside taverna. They will be feeding us after the morning yoga class and on selected evening during the week, with some evenings kept free to visit the local seafood restaurants.
Maria is a fantastic cook, and during the week there will be the option of attending a cookery class to learn how to prepare traditional Greek vegetarian meals, which we will then eat!
There will also be an optional excursion to the organic olive oil mill at Astrikas, world famous olive oil, plus organic lemon olive oil and organic orange olive oil available to purchase onsite which really is fantastic. To find out more go to www.biolea.gr.
Yoga will take place twice a day on the yoga deck overlooking the beach with its sea views. There will be no yoga on one day, allowing you to travel further afield; explore some of the re fantastic nearby walks and gorges. We can either arrange official group walks, or you can go off and explore on your own, and there will also be an option of a boat trip, all depending on the group’s preferences.
Our rooms are simply furnished in Cretan style, with air conditioning and ensuite facilities.
Located immediately behind the venue, although the rooms do not have sea views, they are perfectly situated only a stone’s throw / few steps walk from the beach.
There are three upstairs rooms which share a balcony, and therefore carry a superior room supplement. Please note this is a taverna and not a hotel, rooms and furnishings are appropriate to that. All rooms have a fridge and a kettle.
There is a tiny supermarket close by and a small clothing boutique. A short walk takes you to the small central village area with its cafes and shops. The main road at the top of the village is less interesting to visit, as this is where tractors and industrial goods are sold.
Meals – each day after your morning yoga class, you will be served a delicious breakfast with milk, eggs and cheese all from the owners’ small-holding.
Your vegetarian group dinners will be onsite, and on some nights a fish option will be available.
Five group evening meals are included in the cost of your holiday.
Special diets cannot be accommodated however soya milk is supplied.
Includes – Accommodation, yoga, large vegetarian breakfast and five group evening meals.
Not Included – Flight, transfers and insurance.
TRAVEL
Flights – fly to Chania, from here you will be met by taxi and transferred to Mavros Molos Beach at Kissamos.
Direct flights to Chania from the UK depart from Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham and Bristol.
Transfers – are not included in the cost, however we will be teaming people up to share taxis from Chania airport to the venue. The transfer from Chania airport takes approx. 35 minutes.
Kind Words from 2022
“I have been to three yoga retreats in Kissamos, Crete run by Lisa. I really enjoy Lisa’s style of teaching as it combines movement and meditation. Also Lisa has a depth of knowledge about the purpose and benefits of the movements we are practicing. Lisa also ensures the practice is suited to all levels and often incorporates humour into the practice which we all enjoy. I would highly recommend Lisa’s style of teaching and am returning to Kissamos again this year to enjoy another retreat week with Lisa.” ~ Maureen 2022
