The earth thaws; so do hearts.

This month, our practice turns toward the heart.

In yoga, heart opening is often associated with backbends—lifting the chest, rolling the shoulders back, creating space across the front body. But the deeper work of heart opening goes far beyond posture. It’s an invitation to meet ourselves with honesty, courage, and compassion.
The heart is a vulnerable place. We protect it instinctively—through tension in the shoulders, shallow breathing, or the emotional armour we’ve built over time. When we practise heart-opening poses, we’re not forcing ourselves to be “open,” we are learning how to soften without collapsing, to stay present without shutting down.

In class, you may notice sensations arise—warmth, resistance, emotion, or even joy. All of it is welcome. Heart opening asks us to stay curious rather than reactive, to breathe into sensation rather than turn away from it.

As you move this week, consider these gentle reflections:
• Can I create space without forcing?
• Can I stay with discomfort while offering myself kindness?
• What does it feel like to lead from the heart, even briefly?

Remember, heart opening is not about giving more of yourself away. It’s about reconnecting to your own inner steadiness and capacity for care—so that whatever you offer the world comes from a place of fullness, not depletion.

Move slowly. Breathe deeply. Let your practice be an act of trust.

I look forward to practising with you and exploring what opens when we allow ourselves to feel.
