Sahasrara Chakra
The crown chakra sits at the very top of the head and is known as Sahasrara in Sanskrit, meaning thousand petalled lotus.
The lotus flower is sacred in Indian tradition; it has roots in mud, symbolizing the weight of the material realm, then its stem travels up toward the light, symbolizing the realm of emotion. At the water’s surface the leaves spread in the realm of air, and finally the flower forms, opening a perfect array of petals, releasing an exquisite fragrance into the subtle etheric realms.
The lotus echoes the map of the chakras in each of us. Its colour is violet or white.
The crown chakra is your connection to whatever you believe to be spirit, source, the divine spark of creation. You can find spirit in many places – from the most glorious of cathedrals to a raindrop gleaming on a blade of grass in the morning sun. It is whatever speaks to you of connection and love beyond everyday existence.
In new born babies the skull bones are unfused and the ancient traditions of India believe that this is to maintain the connection to the Divine Source. This link to the source of creation is maintained throughout life via the crown chakra.
Crown chakra energy is the highest frequency in the body.
